Antique Upcycled Edwardian Buffet Sideboard – Dark Green Paint and Floral Design – Saved & Upcycled by TGLP

Meet Eddie, as I like to call this fabulous Edwardian Sideboard, a natural beauty in need of a 21st century rejuvenation. She was saved from going to the tip and given a new and exciting life. This lady is around 100 years old, and I think she will now live on for another century if not longer.

Upcycled with a lot of love and using quality materials including:
Lick ‘Green 06’ Eggshell for depth, drama, and decadence. Genuinely non-toxic, low-VOC, durable, and wipeable.
Lick ‘Electric Poppies 02’ blooming botanicals wallpaper designed by British artist Natasha Coverdale.
Annie Sloan’s furniture wax was applied to the unpainted wood for added durability, silky finish and to make the drawers run like on butter 
And the finishing touch is the luxurious Fabric Galore’s velvet lining in the top drawer which is usefully divided in 4 partitions. The lining has been attached on acid-free mount-board to preserve the fabric for longer. I’ve included a ‘before’ picture as some may like to see the transformation.

I have spent a lot of time making sure I sympathetically upcycled Eddie. I wanted her to be as good as new but, for her character and personality to show through, I left some of the original mahogany wood visible on the doors, drawer, and interiors.

The Edwardian era is famously known for its rebellion against and departure from the formal, rigid, and restrictive Victorian era that preceded it. This historical period is generally viewed as more free-spirited when English culture began to shift into a much more mobile, multi-faceted, eclectic society; these attitude changes are reflected in the furniture designs of the Edwardian period.

The sideboard has a multi-purpose beauty: it’s perfect in the dining room as it was originally designed for the storage of crockery and tableware, but it would look stunning in a bedroom, hallway, kitchen or even home office as a standing desk.

I refurbish to a high standard, with incredible attention to detail and aim to provide honest photographs and descriptions, but please remember that this is a vintage upcycled piece and will therefore have small imperfections which do not affect its purpose or use. In this case, Eddie is in great conditions – it’s worth mentioning the drawers run perfectly smooth which is impressive for such an antique piece – but there are a few small marks I should list.
The top has a small indent which is hardly noticeable, I think it can be felt more than seen. The top drawer used to have a keyhole, but the key was missing so I decided to paper over it. The bottom drawer’s front panel is made from 3 pieces of wood so the joints between them is slightly visible through the paint. Some of the interior wood shows signs of wear on the original stain. All these details should be noticeable in my photos but if in doubt please ask me directly and I’ll be more than happy to send more photos to illustrate.

Measurements attached as a photo.

This Great Little Place is happy to be commissioned for any project you may need help with and will make sure the design fits in with your own decor and desires. I can also assist with furniture sourcing if you don’t already have a piece in mind.

Thank you for looking.
