Antique Pine Linen Press
Victorian pine linen press
This is a Victorian pine linen press, or at least that is how it was described when we bought it, but it is unusual in that not only the doors but even the drawers are intended to be locked! Either the owner placed great value on their linen, or they stored important documents in there at some point.
This was painstakingly (literally) stripped of many layers of mostly white paint, and the usual repairs carried out to ensure it is all in good working order. It is now in excellent antique condition.
It has been painted using a blended technique, with Craig and Rose Pentland, Annie Sloan Old Violet and Paloma chalk paint, with some burnt umber and bronze/gold special effects paint thrown into the mix. I added a subtle (I hope!) thistle design on the doors, and the whole piece has been finished with several coats of neutral wax. There are two working keys (one in each drawer) which act as handles, they can both be used to lock the door on the right, the door on the left has it’s original catch.
The haberdashery drawers actually hold a lot more than you might think, although I have only put in a few fabric samples for show, and the drawers slide out very easily.
Dimensions; 87 cm high, 99 cm wide and 56 cm deep.
